Migraine headaches

25 Dec

Migraine headaches (ημικρανίες in Greek) are a neurological disorder characterized by severe pain. The pain typically lasts from 4 to 72 hours and can be debilitating. Migraines have been found to have a genetic component, with about 28% of sufferers having a first-degree family member who also suffers from them. Migrains are often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity.

Migraine may also cause nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light and sound, loss of appetite and cognitive difficulties.

If migraines continue without treatment for more than two-three days they may result in status migrainous which is an ailment that affects the quality of life significantly. Causative factors include stress, anxiety or depression as well as red wine, cheese and aged meats.

Migraines are headaches that can be very strong and debilitating. They are related to the dilation of the blood vessels in the brain which leads to pain, nausea, vomiting, photophobia (sensitivity to light), phonophobia (sensitivity to sound) and sometimes aura (a neurological disturbance).

The exact cause of migraines is unknown but it is believed that they may be caused by changes in serotonin levels or nerve cells in the brain. It can also be hereditary too.

Diet (nutrition)

5 Apr

In nutrition, diet is the sum of food consumed by a person or other organism.[1] Dietary habits are the habitual decisions an individual or culture makes when choosing what foods to eat. The word diet often implies the use of specific intake of nutrition for health or weight-management reasons (with the two often being related). Individual dietary choices may be more or less healthy.

Proper nutrition requires ingestion and absorption of vitamins, minerals, and food energy in the form of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Dietary habits and choices play a significant role in the quality of life, health and longevity. It can define cultures and play a role in religion.

Imagination Tech shipments hit by smartphone slowdown

8 Mar

Imagination Technologies has downgraded its forecast for shipments of chips containing its graphics and video technology because of lower than expected sales of top-end smartphones.

Shares in the British group, the technology of which is used in Apple’s iPhone, fell to a three-week low after it updated the market on Thursday. They were trading down 8.3 percent at 172.2 pence by 1222 GMT (7:22 ET), the biggest faller on the mid-cap index.

FinnCap analyst Lorne Daniel said the future looks increasingly bleak for Imagination, which is competing against bigger rivals such as ARM, Qualcomm, Intel and Nvidia.

“Our real concern is that we only see the scenario deteriorating further as Imagination lacks the cash and scale to match its key rivals in ferociously competitive CPU and GPU(central and graphics processing) markets,” she said.

Imagination said it expected its partners to ship between 520 million and 550 million units this year, excluding the impact of its acquisition of MIPS technology in 2012, down from its previous forecast of 580-630 million.

The company said it has not been helped by its lower market share in cheaper smartphones, which has been the best-performing part of the market, but it hopes to gain share in that segment in the latter part of its next financial year.

In the short term, however, it also downgraded expectations for licensing revenue for the year to Apr. 30 to between 35 million pounds and 40 million pounds ($59-67 million), from 38-43 million pounds, to reflect the timing of deals in its final quarter. ($1 = 0.5977 British Pounds)

Planning your own funeral

16 Nov

Death may be the hardest issue to deal with and it is common wisdmon how painfull it is when dealing with someone you love death. The even more cold truth is that everything in life costs money funerals included. In face can range anywhere from five thousand dollars ($5,320 according to Fay Spano spokeswoman for the National Funeral Directors Association) all the way up to twenty thousand dollars.

There are situations in life that affect you for your entire life. Every time I deal with death I cant forget to remember a dear friend of mine when he told me about how his mother did the arrangements for her own funeral and how she told him about it. “I would like to talk to you about my funeral” that is how she began telling him about it. At that time he was about twenty five (25) years old. They sat together and – like he told me – they had the most intimate conversation they ever had. There are thousands of stories like this one, however it is not the common fact. Perhaps, one day, planning your funeral will be counted as a sensible thing to do. No matter it might be wise to be prepaired and know the common issues regarding planning your own funeral. So let us take a look at the things to consider:

  • How do you feel about burial or cremation? Does your religion have specific rules or rituals? In some religions cremation is otu of the question, while in others you might have to be on record as a member before denomination’s clergy can officiate.
  • Casket or container for ashes? In some religions burning is out of the question. Moreover the range of costs differs. From a $30 disposable plastic urn to a purchased vault in a columbarium to many thousands of dollars for a custom-made wood or metal casket.
  • What sort of funeral service or memorial gathering, if any, appeals to you? Think back to services you’ve attended, location, officiants and speakers. If you have ideas for music, favorite flowers, suggested memorial donations and published obituaries, record those too.
  • Do you have money set aside? Do you have access to funds specific for funerals?
  • Do you want a physical memorial marker? In those are stones for graves, urns, plaques, public benches, public planting materials imprinted with your name included.
